Kamchatka Brown Bear grows large because of its abundant and protein-rich diet of spawning salmon and other fish in the coastal rivers, and from the comparatively mild climate that permits a shorter period of hibernation. The average size of Brown Bears taken every year is about 2.6-2.8 m, with some trophies up to 3 m.

The average size of Brown Bears taken every year is about 2,6-2,8 m, with some trophies up to 3 m.

SEASON, WEATHER, ACCOMMODATION

In spring you can see bears clearly and from a great distance against white snow. Early in the morning the hunter and the guide start to explore the hunting area using the snowmobile. The hunter usually takes a seat in a simple sledge and the guide drives the snowmobile. They search for the tracks and after spotting the trophy size male approach it by foot. Shooting distance is about 200 meters. Once the trophy is shot, field trophy care is made by your PH. You put the trophy on the sledge and bring it to the base camp, on the base camp the trophy will be prepared for the further transportation. In spring in some areas you can add Capercaillie to your tag. Spring hunt, very dynamic one and with the time being more and more hunters prefers this period due to the perfect quality of Bear skin.

Northern part of Kamchatka - Palana region
South part of Kamchatka – different hunting areas - Khodutka region, etc.

Base camps are wooden hunting houses: separate cabins are for living and for dining. Warm tented camps are also used in some areas. There are always a generation set, satellite connection and sauna on every base camp.
